Palliative care helps people live as well as possible with a serious illness, including while receiving treatment to cure or control it. Hospice care is a specific form of palliative care for people nearing the end of life, when the focus shifts to comfort rather than curing the terminal illness. The main distinction is the goal of care—not simply how sick someone is.
