What We are Doing to Help the 95% of Clergy Worldwide Who Do Not Have Formal Theological Training

Daniel L. Sonnenberg, Global Instructor with Timothy Two Project International in Latin America and the Caribbean

Approximately 95% of pastors/priests worldwide do not have formal theological education. Our mission with Timothy Two Project International is to provide onsite theological training for pastors who lack formal theological education.

See how we are accomplishing this in Latin America and the Caribbean at dansonnenberg.com/timothytwo. This website has links to translate it into Spanish, French and Portuguese.

“The Center for the Study of Global Christianity* estimates a total of 5 million pastors/priests in all Christian traditions worldwide (Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, and Independents, including bi-vocational).”

“Of these, we estimate that 5% (250,000) are likely to have formal theological training (undergraduate Bible degrees or Master’s degrees).”

“Roughly 70% of these pastors are in Independent congregations. Independent pastors, in particular, have little theological training, even in the West.”

“This is based on incomplete responses in survey results from colleges and seminaries in our Global Survey on Theological Education.”**
