The Workshop. I facilitated the fourth and final workshop, “Serving God,” differently than the previous workshops. This workshop covers topics with which they are very familiar. The categories of topics include: serving God in the church (pastors, elders, deacons, teachers, worship, prayer, hospitality, evangelism, etc.); serving God in the community (meeting the needs of others, working unto the Lord, living as “salt and light,” etc.); and, serving God in the world (sending missionaries, going as missionaries).

The Challenge. So, I challenged them to prepare and teach the lessons themselves to one another. They formed “teaching teams” of two or three, then took turns teaching the lessons and facilitating very lively discussions. These are topics they address in their churches every week, so they had much to say to one another. And since they serve in different churches, they were able to hear and discuss diverse viewpoints on the various topics.
The Fulfillment. Photos above and below show them presenting the material in a variety of ways and leading the group discussions.

The Certificate Ceremony. On the final day of the workshop, we conducted a formal certificate presentation ceremony which they had planned in advance complete with caps and gowns.

What’s Next. These pastors and leaders have already begun teaching the four workshops in their local churches. In the days and months ahead, all will continue teaching their leaders and members using the 84 topics included in the Biblical and Theological Foundations series. And some participants plan to initiate the teaching of these workshops in other regions of Costa Rica with new groups of pastors and ministry leaders.
In so doing, they are following the pattern set out by the Apostle Paul when he wrote to Timothy: “what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”
2 Timothy 2:2.
